5+ Easy Steps: How to Pray Taraweeh Prayers

Taraweeh prayers are special prayers performed by Muslims during the month of Ramadan. They are performed in addition to the five daily prayers and are typically offered in the evening after the Isha prayer. Taraweeh prayers are a highly recommended Sunnah (voluntary act of worship) with many ahadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad) encouraging their performance.

There is no set number of raka’at (units of prayer) to be performed during Taraweeh, but most scholars recommend praying between 8 and 20 raka’at. The prayers are typically performed in sets of two, with a short rest taken in between each set. During each raka’at, the worshiper will recite verses from the Quran, perform ruku’ (bowing) and sujood (prostration), and say various supplications.
