Wite-Out is a brand name for a type of correction fluid used to mask errors in text. Wite-Out is applied to the error and allowed to dry, creating a white opaque layer that covers the mistake. Once dry, it can be written over.
Wite-Out was invented in 1979 by Bette Nesmith Graham, a secretary who was frustrated with the time it took to erase and retype errors. She initially made the correction fluid in her kitchen and sold it to her co-workers. Wite-Out quickly became popular, and in 1979, Graham founded the Wite-Out Products Company.
